Installation instructions:
- Removing the old shaft collar: Remove the snap ring at the end of the hydraulic cylinder where the piston rod exits the cylinder housing by prying it out. After than, the piston rod can be taken out of the cylinder. The factory shaft collar that is used to attach the piston rod to the rod mount is staked into place. Use a 3mm/3.5mm metal drill bit to drill out the staking on both sides of the old shaft collar (we recommend using a drill bit specifically made for hardened steel). After the staking is drilled out completely, remove the old shaft collar and pull the piston rod out of the rod mount. Proceed to remove the old rod seal and install our new seal (see our Installation guidelines for more details).
- Installing the new shaft collar: Push the piston rod into the rod mount and hold it there. Take the new shaft collar (without the set screws) and push it onto the end of the piston rod until it is fully seated. Now you can insert both set screws and screw them in using a 2mm hex bit, alternating between the two screws in the process to apply even pressure from both sides (tightening torque: 1.7 Nm / 15 in-lb). It is very important that you push the shaft collar down against the rod mount during the entire process in order to guarantee a tight fit. After ensuring that the shaft collar is positioned tight against the rod mount, you can insert the piston head into the cylinder and reinstall the snap ring.
