Mercedes 1298001672 top hydraulic cylinder seal kit - rod seal HPU
From
$9.99*
We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A1298001672 / 1298001672 / 129 800 1672 used in Mercedes SL R129 (front lock cylinder) / E-Class W124 (rear bow lock cylinder) / CLK W208 (rear bow lock cylinder) models.
The issue: A lot of Mercedes convertible owners are aware of the well known problem: After a while the hydraulic cylinders responsible for opening and closing the soft top start leaking and do not work properly anymore. The leak occurs when the installed o-rings, rod seals and piston seals wear out to a point that they are not able to withstand the pressure inside the hydraulic cylinder anymore. This is especially noticeable during the summer in warmer regions since the original materials are limited in terms of temperature resistance.
What others offer: Most competitors source cheap Polyurethane rod seals (usually green or blue) from China, most of which are of lower quality than the original rod seals which were already limited in terms of service life and heat resistance.
Our solution: We wanted more than just a simple and cheap replacement but a solution that incorporated unparalleled longevity and durability. Therefore we developed two kinds of rod seals made from high-tech materials: High-Performance Polyurethane (HPU, red color) as well as heat and wear resistant Viton® (FPM/FKM, brown color). HPU combines excellent mechanical properties with high chemical resistance, exceeding those of standard Polyurethane. Additionally, Viton® has a far greater temperature resistance (from -20°C/-4°F to +204°C/+400°F) and is therefore the preferred material for vehicles in warmer regions. The rod seals and piston seals are CNC-milled to our specifications within tolerance class DIN ISO 2768-1-f (fine) in Germany to ensure a high level of accuracy.
Seal types: A hydraulic cylinder contains a rod seal, an o-ring (depending on the model, not always installed) and a one- or two-piece piston seal. If the hydraulic cylinder is leaking, you'll need to replace the rod seal (and the o-ring). If the hydraulic cylinder is not able to open and close the soft top properly anymore, you'll need to replace the piston seal.
Attention: Although the seals we offer have a high temperature range, they may only be used with the following types of hydraulic fluid to ensure smooth operation and a long service life:- Genuine Mercedes Benz hydraulic fluid MB 343.0, hydraulic fluids in accordance with standard DIN 51 524, HLP 32 or standard ISO 11158, HM 32

We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A1298001872 / 1298001872 / 129 800 1872 (bow extension cylinder) used in Mercedes SL R129 models.
Attention: The provided seals may only be used with the following types of hydraulic fluid to ensure smooth operation and a long service life:- Genuine Mercedes Benz hydraulic fluid MB 343.0, hydraulic fluids in accordance with standard DIN 51 524, HLP 32 or standard ISO 11158, HM 32

Mercedes 1298001872 top hydraulic cylinder seal kit - piston seal
From
$12.99*
We offer a seal kit / repair kit (piston seal) for the top hydraulic cylinder A1298001872 / 1298001872 / 129 800 1872 (bow extension cylinder) used in Mercedes SL R129 models.
Extraction tool for Mercedes SL R129 hydraulic line port seals
From
$12.99*
We offer an extraction tool for the hydraulic line port seals used in Mercedes SL R129 models.
These seals are located within the hydraulic ports of the cylinders and the distributor (Mercedes part number A1298000022 / 1298000022) and consist of a uniquely shaped quad seal and a brass support ring to keep the seal in place. With this special extraction tool you can remove the brass ring.
This extraction tool includes the following parts:
1 x special thread-forming screw, short - for the distributor and all hydraulic cylinders except A1298001772 / A1298001872 / A1248000272 (bow extension cylinders)
1 x special thread-forming screw, long - only needed for hydraulic cylinders A1298001772 / A1298001872 / A1248000272 (bow extension cylinders)
1 x spacer - only needed for hydraulic cylinders A1298001772 / A1298001872 / A1248000272 (bow extension cylinders)
1 x washer
2 x nut
Brass ring removal instructions:- The distributor / all hydraulic cylinders except A1298001772 / A1298001872 / A1248000272 (bow extension cylinders): Remove the tension clips that hold the hydraulic lines in place and pull the hydraulic lines carefully out of the distributor/cylinder. Put the distributor/hydraulic cylinder in a vice with the hydraulic line port opening facing upwards. Now thread one of the nuts onto the short screw until it touches the screw head (some force may be needed at the beginning due to the unique shape of the threads). Place the washer on top of the hydraulic line port whose seal you would like to remove. Insert the screw through the washer into the brass ring using a Torx T20 screw driver. Proceed to turn the screw driver until the screw is fully seated inside the brass ring (the screw is fully seated either when the nut touches the washer or when the brass ring starts rotating). Now use one hand to hold the screw driver (and the screw) in place while turning the nut clockwise with a 7mm wrench. This will lift the brass ring slowly until it can be fully removed. After that, you can remove the brass ring from the screw by using a pair of pliers and holding onto the outside of the brass ring while unscrewing the screw.
- Hydraulic cylinders A1298001772 / A1298001872 / A1248000272 (bow extension cylinders): Remove the tension clips that hold the hydraulic lines in place and pull the hydraulic lines carefully out of the cylinder. Put the hydraulic cylinder in a vice with the hydraulic line port opening facing upwards. Now thread one of the nuts onto the long screw until it touches the screw head (some force may be needed at the beginning due to the unique shape of the threads). Place the washer on top of the hydraulic line port whose seal you would like to remove (the lower hydraulic line port opening of the bow extension cylinders requires placing the included spacer on the lower shoulder to level the washer due to the two port openings being too close to each other). Insert the screw through the washer into the brass ring using a Torx T20 screw driver. Proceed to turn the screw driver until the screw is fully seated inside the brass ring (the screw is fully seated either when the nut touches the washer or when the brass ring starts rotating). Mercedes 2308000872 top hydraulic cylinder seal kit - rod seal HPU
From
$20.99*
We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A2308000872 / 2308000872 / 230 800 0872 (front lock cylinder) used in Mercedes SL R230 models. This repair kit includes the shaft collar that is needed to reattach the piston rod to the rod mount.
The shaft collar and the set screws are made out of 1.4404 / V4A / AISI 316L stainless steel that has superior corrosion resistance compared to standard V2A / AISI 304 stainless steel. The rod seals and metal parts are CNC-milled to our specifications within tolerance class DIN ISO 2768-1-f (fine) in Germany to ensure a high level of accuracy.
Installation instructions:- Removing the old shaft collar: Remove the snap ring at the end of the hydraulic cylinder where the piston rod exits the cylinder housing by prying it out. After that, the piston rod can be taken out of the cylinder. The factory shaft collar that is used to attach the piston rod to the rod mount is staked into place. Use a 3mm/3.5mm metal drill bit to drill out the staking on both sides of the old shaft collar (we recommend using a drill bit specifically made for hardened steel). After the staking is drilled out completely, remove the old shaft collar and pull the piston rod out of the rod mount. Proceed to remove the old rod seal and install our new seal (see our Installation guidelines for more details).
- Installing the new shaft collar: Push the piston rod into the rod mount and hold it there. Take the new shaft collar (without the set screws) and push it onto the end of the piston rod until it is fully seated. Now you can insert both set screws and screw them in using a 2mm hex bit, alternating between the two screws in the process to apply even pressure from both sides (tightening torque: 1.7 Nm / 15 in-lb). It is very important that you push the shaft collar down against the rod mount during the entire process in order to guarantee a tight fit. After ensuring that the shaft collar is positioned tight against the rod mount, you can insert the piston head into the cylinder and reinstall the snap ring.

We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A2308001272 / 2308001272 / 230 800 1272 (main lift cylinder) used in Mercedes SL R230 models.

Mercedes 1708000072 top hydraulic cylinder seal kit - rod seal HPU
From
$20.99*
We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A1708000072 / 1708000072 / 170 800 0072 (front lock cylinder) used in Mercedes SLK R170 models. This repair kit includes the shaft collar that is needed to reattach the piston rod to the rod mount.

Shaft collar for Mercedes 1708000072 hydraulic cylinder
From
$14.99*
We offer a repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A1708000072 / 1708000072 / 170 800 0072 (front lock cylinder) used in Mercedes SLK R170 models. This repair kit includes the shaft collar that is needed to reattach the piston rod to the rod mount. The shaft collar and the set screws are made out of 1.4404 / V4A / AISI 316L stainless steel that has superior corrosion resistance compared to standard V2A / AISI 304 stainless steel. The metal parts are CNC-milled to our specification in Germany within tolerance class DIN ISO 2768-1-f (fine) to ensure a high level of accuracy.

Mercedes 1718000572 top hydraulic cylinder seal kit - rod seal FPM
From
$12.99*
We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A1718000572 / 1718000572 / 171 800 0572 (trunk lid cylinder) used in Mercedes SLK R171 models.

Shaft collar for Mercedes 1718000072 hydraulic cylinder
From
$14.99*
We offer a repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder A1718000072 / 1718000072 / 171 800 0072 (front lock cylinder) used in Mercedes SLK R170 models.
